It had to happen eventually...a Kristen Ashley book that I didn't LOVE with all my heart. *sigh*It had all the makings of the best ever: me, being Team LawMan over Team Biker or Team Commando; Mitch Lawson being her yummiest alpha yet, and the sure-to-be-included, now-familiar cast of characters (Hawk/Gwen, Elvira, Hank, Eddie, Lee, Lee's Guys, Hawk's Guys, Tack).But 2 things brought all that possibility and hope for greatness down:Mara - the best part of KA books is that her ridiculously lovable/lustable alpha male leads are met with equally lovable/sassy/strong female leads. These female leads allow you to feel ok about the always-happy-endings because you want YOUR MAN (and let's face it, we all want these alpha leads to me our own) to end up with a great woman. Mara, just didn't fit the bill. Her incredibly low self-esteem was annoying. Though she had her moments, I never felt real strength and I never felt convinced she was worthy of Mitch.The story - maybe because Mara was not as strong of a character, the story couldn't be as intense of a roller coaster ride we're used to in KA books. In fact, it was kind of boring. And without that roller coaster, and w/o strong characters to pull it through, the book fell flat.All that being said, MITCH LAWSON, great dressing, protector, bad-ass, good guy ties MIKE HAINES (who I would described EXACTLY the same way) as my numero uno KA lead. You all can have the Tacks and the Tates...and heck, I'll even give you the Hawks and the Lees! Me? I'm taking Team LawMan...Mitch and Mike (and we'll see about Eddie & Hank, once I get to their books in the Rock Chick series!)
