3.5 StarsWhen I first started reading this, I thought I was hating it...disregarding it as another story about an irritatingly selfish, too-young-for-love girl. I didn't like Lake and what I believed she was asking of Will, even though he could NOT give it to her. Finished the book and thought it was maybe 2.5 stars. But after reading, and loving, Point of Retreat (the follow-up), I went back and re-read Slammed and actually loved it. I missed some very subtle nuances and repetition of words and phrases that really made the book sing. I also came to love the slam poetry...even feeling inspired to try writing my own. It's a simpler plot than most books in this genre, but it runs deep and is worth reading...especially if followed immediately with reading Point of Retreat.
